About

I am a wife, mother of three, behavioral health executive, and nonprofit founder with a passion for leadership, wellness, and community impact. Born in Maryland and raised in Delaware, I came to Virginia to attend Hampton University, where I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees. An equestrian course at Hampton sparked a lifelong love of horses that continues to shape both my personal and professional life. I prioritize self-care through movement, Peloton, and horseback riding, and I believe wellness should be both intentional and sustainable. I am also the founder of Talk & Tea, a nonprofit organization created to expand access to equine-assisted experiences and bring together behavioral health, connection, and the restorative power of horses.

Candidate Responses

Expanded Board candidate application responses.

What professional experience/s has/have most shaped who you are today?

I am a behavioral health professional, organizational leader, and advocate committed to expanding access to person-centered mental health and substance use services. As the owner of a behavioral health organization, I have developed programs across multiple levels of care, supervised professionals, navigated regulatory environments, and served individuals impacted by trauma, substance use, housing instability, and justice-system involvement. I also founded Talk & Tea to expand access to equine-assisted services. My experience bridges clinical care, leadership, program development, compliance, workforce development, and community service, with a focus on creating innovative, effective, and sustainable programs.

Please share any experience serving on nonprofit, association, corporate, community, or volunteer boards—or other leadership roles you feel have prepared you for Board service.

My leadership experience spans public behavioral health governance, nonprofit leadership, organizational management, clinical supervision, and community service. I served on the Chesapeake Community Services Board, first as a Board Member and later as Chairwoman, strengthening my experience in governance, accountability, strategic leadership, collaboration, and stewardship of public resources. As the owner and executive leader of a behavioral health organization and founder of Talk & Tea, I also bring experience in program development, compliance, workforce development, clinical operations, strategic planning, and equine-assisted services. These roles have taught me to balance governance, mission, accountability, and long-term organizational impact.

What inspired you to consider serving on Eagala’s expanded Board of Directors?

I am drawn to Eagala’s expanded Board because it brings together areas central to my work and values: behavioral health, experiential treatment, community impact, leadership, and horses. As I expand my work in equine-assisted services, I am especially interested in increasing access for communities that may not traditionally encounter this form of care. I would bring experience in behavioral health leadership, governance, program development, compliance, and organizational sustainability. My service on the Chesapeake Community Services Board, where I advanced from Board Member to Chairwoman, strengthened my belief in the impact of thoughtful, mission-driven governance.

Looking ahead five years, what do you believe is Eagala’s greatest opportunity?

I believe Eagala’s greatest opportunity over the next five years is to expand access to equine-assisted services while protecting the integrity and quality of its model. Eagala can strengthen partnerships with behavioral health providers, schools, community agencies, veterans’ programs, justice-involved services, and substance use treatment organizations. There is also an opportunity to help programs implement services that are clinically sound, culturally responsive, measurable, and sustainable. Continued focus on training, ethics, outcomes, collaboration, and education can broaden Eagala’s reach while preserving the experiential, team-based foundation that makes the model distinctive.

What unique experiences, perspectives, or strengths would you bring to the Board?

I bring the perspective of a builder. I am naturally drawn to gaps, possibilities, and the question, “How can we do this better?” I am comfortable challenging assumptions, asking difficult questions, and turning ideas into programs that are practical, sustainable, and impactful. I lead with both vision and execution. I can see the big picture while still understanding what it takes to make that vision work in the real world. I also bring curiosity, creativity, strong relationship-building skills, and a willingness to listen to perspectives different from my own. I believe my greatest contribution would be helping Eagala think boldly about growth, access, partnerships, and impact while staying grounded in mission, ethics, and the people we serve.

Describe a time when you worked with people who held viewpoints that differed from your own. What did you learn from that experience?

Serving on the Chesapeake Community Services Board taught me that differing viewpoints can strengthen decision-making when people feel heard and remain focused on a shared mission. As I advanced from Board Member to Chairwoman, I became intentional about creating space for diverse perspectives while keeping discussions productive. I learned to listen beyond someone’s position to understand the experiences, responsibilities, or information shaping it. That experience reinforced that strong leadership is not about creating agreement at all costs; it is about encouraging respectful dialogue, asking thoughtful questions, examining different perspectives, and helping people move toward responsible decisions together.

What does stewardship mean to you?

To me, stewardship means understanding that leadership is temporary, but the consequences of our decisions can last for years. A good steward protects the mission, people, resources, reputation, and future of an organization while making decisions that serve more than the present moment. Horses offer a powerful example of this kind of leadership: they are responsive, grounded, aware of their environment, and deeply attuned to the herd. They remind us that strong leadership is not about control, but about presence, trust, responsibility, and balance. In Board service, stewardship to me means being a caretaker of something larger than ourselves and leaving the organization stronger, more sustainable, and better positioned for those who come next.

Is there anything else you would like us to know about you that isn’t reflected elsewhere in this application?

I lead with curiosity, courage, and a willingness to grow. I value strong relationships, thoughtful conversation, and the ability to see possibility where others may see limitation. Horses have deepened my appreciation for presence, trust, and nonverbal connection, and I carry those lessons into how I lead, serve, and collaborate.
